Centre of excellence of Education – MIM commits itself to this vision
The Malta Institute of Management congratulates Government for its vision of having Malta a Centre of Excellence for Education. The MIM augurs to see a strategic plan towards this vision and that a plan of implementation is in place at the earliest.
The MIM appreciates the measures taken by government in relation to the stipends for Maltese persons studying in foreign Universities. However, these measures should not discriminate between Maltese students studying in Foreign Universities and those studying with Maltese private Institutions.
Furthermore, the MIM is disappointed due to the fact that the MGSS were not extended to persons studying on a part time basis. Malta should encourage education in all its forms and not one particular sector. Part time study has been fundamental over the years and has become critical for furthering one’s education and for personal and professional development. It seems that Malta is not recognising the importance of this method of study. There are various private organisations in Malta that are providing part time undergraduate and post graduate educational programmes. Not all Maltese have the opportunity to leave work for a number of years but they should still be encouraged to further their studies. Through part time study this is possible.
The MIM would have also appreciated that certain VAT anomalies be addressed in this budget in accordance with its pre budget proposals.
The MIM commits itself as ever before in working towards Malta’s vision of becoming a centre of excellence for education. In fact MIM is continuously investing to give its contribution in this respect. MIM encourages Government to strengthen also its EuroMed relations for the development of the area and in taking the lead in certain areas such as Financial Services,
Health and Education.
To this end the MIM is organising various activities that discuss and promote new ways of how to achieve these admirable goals.
