Prime Minister presented with MIM Publication
The Malta Institute of Management met up with Hons.Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi to present a copy of Principles of Maltese Taxation by Dr.Robert Attard. Mr Lawrence Mizzi, President, Mr. Reuben Buttigieg Chairperson and Mr Joseph Cassar Council Member together with the author of the book, Dr Robert Attard discussed the contents of the book and the development of taxation in Malta. Dr. Robert Attard gave a brief overview to the Prime Minister whilst Mr. Reuben Buttigieg explained the contribution that MIM has made in placing Malta Taxation on the International Tax Map. Mr. Reuben Buttigieg, who has headed the whole project said that this is only the first step in the MIM’s project in Financial Services. The book serves also as a Text Book for students on the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation Malta Variant. The book has so far had a tremendous success with various practitioners and academics referring to it on a day to day basis. The book attracted also an amount of international sales particularly from commonwealth countries..
During the e meeting was the importance of Islamic Finance for the Financial Industry in Malta. Dr. Gonzi who strongly believes in Malta’s potential into tapping into Islamic Finance highly praised MIM for its initiatives in the sector over the last two years. Reuben Buttigieg explained to the Prime Minister his vision on how Malta can be marketed as an Islamic Finance centre through the direct intervention of Government through the issuance of Sukuk. Dr.Gonzi congratulated MIM initiatives in various sectors of the Maltese economy particularly in the Financial Industry and Management related areas. MIM was also commended for the approach of collaboration with other organizations amongst others with the MEA and MUBE.
Dr.Gonzi encouraged MIM to continue contributing in Malta’s economic growth by providing tangible activities such as the organisation of conferences, international education programmes and other publications
