Islamic Finance Workshops
The MIM International Event on Islamic Finance
Following the successful events on Islamic Finance in the past two year, the Malta Institute of Management is now organising an International Event on this subject.
This five day event, “Islamic Finance in a European Financial Services Framework”, will start with a number of presentations on 12th October 2009 and followed by various workshops leading up to 16th October 2009 (Programme at link below).
The workshops shall address various areas of Islamic Finance mainly, banking, insurance, funds and capital markets. These discussions will be in the context of a European framework where the impacts on legislation such as Basel II will be discussed. The discussion will also aim at identifying, highlighting and putting light on Malta potentially being a centre of Islamic Finance, indeed an opportunity not to be missed by Maltese finance practitioners.
The MIM has already secured the presence of international participants from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany and the UK. Confirmed speakers and delegates so far include the following high profile individuals:

• Dr. Hussein Hamid Hassan: Prof. of Shariah, Chairperson of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of many Islamic Banks in the Middle East
• Prof. Abdullah Al Shami: Prof. of Comparative Islamic Jurisprudence& Islamic Studies

This event is being organised as a Grundtvig Workshop under the Lifelong Learning Programme. The participants are being supported by the European Commission, covering travelling and accommodation fees.
