Diploma in VAT Compliance
The Diploma in VAT Compliance (Intake 5) is being run once again by the Malta Institute of Management (MIM). VAT planning has become a major activity given the complexity and requirements that the Directives and legislation bring with them. Professionals and persons compiling the VAT form may not be fully aware of these planning opportunities and compliance issues. Many tax advisers focus primarily on the Direct Taxation but fail to plan the VAT aspect in the most efficient manner. The Diploma in VAT compliance is a tool to understand better the VAT legislation and to ensure better planning.
The Diploma takes a very pragmatic approach and is based on practical case studies. It also considers the individual needs of the busy professional. In fact, for example, all examinations and tests are held online. There is a test after every module (3 modules) and then a final exam after the three modules. The students may sit for the examination and tests at a date and time convenient to them. The tests and examinations are only to be held by persons wanting to obtain the Diploma. Persons who wish to attend for the lessons and obtain an attendance certificate may do so too. As an additional benefit the lessons normally qualify for CPE hours for accountants. To qualify to sit the modular tests and the diploma examination candidates must register with The Institute of Indirect Taxation.
The Diploma is based on 17 sessions covering the following subjects:
- Introduction to Maltese VAT Legislation
- Scope of Tax
- Registration
- Liability of the Supply
- Deemed Supplies and Self-Supplies
- Value of the Supply
- Time of the Supply
