The current international crisis that hit European states together with the recent political developments affecting the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean basin, offer both challenges and opportunities. Women are on one hand, faced on a daily basis with key issues that can undermine their leadership capabilities if they are not versatile enough and well equipped to deal with current realities and challenges. Often with substantial personal sacrifice so as to succeed. On the other hand, they have an unprecedented opportunity to maximise their potential and strengthen their leadership role in the 21st Century. In this light, the Malta Institute of Management, as part of its 2012 conferences and events programme will organiseon the 8th March the MIM National Congress for Women in Management where leading female entrepreneurs, managers and leaders will come together to discuss the legislative framework in the light of the current challenges and opportunities for women in management.

The 2012 Management by Ethics Conference

The Malta Institute of Management is organising a Networking Delegation in Rome on the 8th-9th February. Participants of the delegation will be able to meet up with various Italian entities and associations and will also attend the 2012 Management by Ethics Conference organised by Consorzio ELIS (a leading Italian educational institute) and MIM. This conference will discuss future economic prospects in light of the current international crisis. EB-Learn is a sophisticated e-learning system providing interactive communication tools between students and the MIM by means of the Internet.

The Malta Communications Authority (MCA) recently held the first edition of the MCA eBusiness Awards aimed at acknowledging unique and innovative local web-based solutions applied by businesses for businesses and society at large. The MIM EB-Learn System was awarded, the ‘Best use of Technology in Education and Training’ during these awards.

The MIM EB-Learn platform currently includes customized diplomas, one in International Tax and another in Hospitality Management available in English and in Mandarin (Chinese) specifically targeted to foreign participants.

The President is presented with a donation in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund by the Members of the Mediterranean Awards for Islamic Finance at San Anton Palace

On 28th October 2011, His Excellency Dr George Abela, President of Manta, was presented with a donation of Euro 15 thousand (fifteen thousand Euro) in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund. This donation was given during a cordial visit by a delegation of the Mediterranean Awards for Islamic Finance headed by Mr Reuben Buttigieg, President of the Malta Institute of Management.

During the presentation of the donation the His Excellency discussed the developments of Islamic Finance in the Mediterranean Region. Reuben Buttigieg thanked the President  for his hospitality and lauded the Presidents efforts towards Charity.  Reuben Buttigieg said that this donation is a sign of appreciation to this effort and also a sign of the real values and principles of Islamic Finance.

Moreover the information needs to be accurate in order to enable them to make the right decisions.

Throughout these sessions we shall be looking at several different shorcuts, summarizing tables and formulae intended to make the manager’s IT work easier in an environment of increased workload and time pressure. In the electronic reporting environment useful information can either be derived from data keyed into MS Excel or alternatively raw data transferred electronically from other applications. It is not uncommon to come across instances where same data needs to be cleaned up or rearranged prior to use in MS Excel.

This two-session seminar aims at developing one’s confidence in taking MS Excel spreadsheets to the next level. When combined with the advanced functionality of the application, these sessions and one’s own experience within the specific business environment should enable the manager to produce more capable, comparable and expandable results in MS Excel.

MS Excel 2007 shall be the basis spreadsheet application used in these sessions. The sessions will be addressed addressed by Mr Christopher Mifsud  FCCA, MIM.

Christopher Mifsud is currently an accountant and freelance consultant on mid-range to large accounting solutions. He has specialised in the implementation of financial software and bespoke applications. Christopher was made a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2003 and is a Member of the Malta Institute of Management. He has been assigned on accounting set ups and financial projects in Tripoli, Libya and in London, United Kingdom.

Christopher has lectured Finance Management for the Institute of Health Care, University of Malta. He has also lectured on Resource Management and Planning for The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Abu Dhabi.
